When I trained for my first half-marathon in 2010, I thought, “This will be great! I’ll do lots of running, and I’ll lose some weight.” The opposite happened. The more I ran, the more I ate! Over that 12 week training period, I gained about 5 pounds.
In 2011, I watched my weight start creeping up even more, reaching the heaviest weight I’ve been in almost 4 years. My time spent running decreased over the summer; I also lost my drive and desire to go the gym. In November, I was finally able to dig myself out of that motivation rut.
Nutrition has been my biggest downfall. I know what I should be eating — fruits & vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, etc. I just haven’t been eating that way. I could come up with all sorts of excuses…I’m sure you’ve heard them before, maybe even said them to yourself.
With that being said, let’s get to the nitty-gritty. My official starting stats and pictures:
Weight - 160.2 lbs
Waist - 38 inches
Thigh - 24 inches
Hip - 41 inches
% Body Fat = 39.4% (YUCK!)

I’m excited for these next 12 weeks!
Thank you, Gold’s Gym, for this opportunity! You have given me the kick-in-the-pants that I needed to say ‘good-bye’ to the me that has exercised on a fairly regular basis, but sabotaged that work by making poor food choices.
